GARDEN AND NATURE


The Park Gardens
East of the town, over 50 different species ( cypress, pine, sequoia, cedar, juniper….) thrive in this English-style park which covers 7 ha.
In 1897 a bandstand was built at the water’s edge. Further up,an aviary was added in 1907. From there you can see the 17th century ice-house and the deer enclosure.




Pré des Lavandières - Washerwomen’s meadow
On the banks of the Vilaine at the foot of the castle, the meadow can be reached by a little alley leading off the rue du Val. This secret garden match aquatic and exotic plants while flowerbeds add some colour. The wash-houses and a former tannery still exist.



Panoramic View Point : The Tertres Noirs
On the right of the Rennes road, as you leave Vitré, a lane leads to the Tetres Noirs from which there is a splendid view of Vitré : the castle on the promontory, the walled town, the churches, the fortifications...
